Promised by Treaty. Denied by Design. Still Worth Fighting For.

The 'Honor the Treaty' Shirt brings attention to the 1866 Treaties and the rights guaranteed to Freedmen descendants that many are still fighting to receive. Centered on the five signatory Tribal Nations — the Cherokee Nation, Chickasaw Nation, Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, Muscogee (Creek) Nation, and Seminole Nation of Oklahoma — this shirt was made to raise awareness, spark conversation, and apply pressure for Freedmen to receive the “all rights” promised in 1866.

Cherokee Nation has recognized full Freedmen citizenship. Muscogee (Creek) Nation became the second after its Supreme Court affirmed Freedmen citizenship under the 1866 treaty. The work remains unfinished across the remaining Nations.

Honor the Treaty is a call for accountability and a refusal to let the promises of 1866 be ignored.
